Island Swim Skills Gold

Location: Commonwealth Place and/or Juan De Fuca

The ISS Gold group is suitable for swimmers from 8 - 10 who have completed Island Swim Skills Silver or Swim Kids 8 and higher.

ISS Gold group teaches efficient swimming and proper kicking skills. A focus on continued stroke development and endurance gives swimmers a good base for the competitive program. Gold swimmers will be able to swim all four strokes competently with proper starts and turns. We encourage swimmers at this level to attend our in house iRace meets. Graduates from ISS Gold will move to the Intro Competitive group.

Program Days: 3 gold group options are available this season

Monday/ Wednesday/ Friday afternoons at Commonwealth pool
Monday /Wednesday/ Friday afternoons at Juan de Fuca pool
Tuesday/ Thursday afternoons at Commonwealth Pool/ Saturday morning at JDF pool

Program Information:

Three weekly swimming sessions.
Attend at least one in -house iRace meet.
Prerequisites: Island Swim Skills Silver or coach assessment. Swim Kids level 8 or higher
Required Equipment: Googles, proper swim suit (no bikinis or board shorts), swim cap is optional

Island Swim Skills Silver

Location: Commonwealth Place and/or Juan De Fuca

The ISS Silver group is suitable for swimmers from 7 - 9 who have completed Island Swim Skills Bronze or are at Swim Kids 6/7.

ISS Silver is the second step in our pre-competitive stream. This group builds on the basic skills learned in Bronze and adds another level of technical progression. Swimmers will also learn swimming specific skills such as circle swimming, and swim meet preparation. We encourage swimmers at this level to attend in house iRace meets to test their skills and to practice competing. After achieving all of the standards for the group, swimmers graduate to either ISS Gold or the Intro Competitive group.

Program Days: 5 silver group options are available this season

Wednesday/ Friday afternoons at Commonwealth pool (2 times available)
Monday/ Friday afternoons at Juan de Fuca pool
Wednesday afternoon/ Saturday morning at JDF pool

Island Swim Skills Bronze

Location: Commonwealth Place and/or Juan De Fuca

The ISS Bronze group is suitable for swimmers from 6 - 8 who have completed Island Waveskills or are a Swim Kids level 4/5.

The ISS Bronze group is the entry level to our pre-competitive swimming program. This group has a strong focus on basic stroke skills, safety and helping children gain more confidence in the water. We encourage swimmers at this level to attend our in house iRace meets to test their new stroke skills. Swimmers will graduate into the ISS Silver group once they have achieved all of the ISS Bronze skills.

Program Days: 5 bronze group options are available this season

Wednesday/ Friday afternoons at Commonwealth pool (2 times available)
Monday/ Friday afternoons at Juan de Fuca pool
Wednesday afternoon/ Saturday morning at JDF pool
Thursday afternoon at Commonwealth Pool/ Saturday morning at JDF pool

Pre-Competitive Groups : Conditioning & Technique (C & T)

Conditioning & Technique

Location: Saanich Commonwealth Pool

The Conditioning and Technique group (formally Island Youth) is suitable for anyone over the age of 11 year olds. Swimmers who want to swim for fitness or cross train for other sports will enjoy this program. Swimmers in this group are not required to compete, but will have the option to do so if interested. Swimmers will be given coached swim workouts and tips to improve their technique and endurance.

Practice Options: (swimmers can choose 1 - 5 practices per week).

Please Note: Conditioning and Technique is not available during July and August.

Required Equipment: Cap, Googles, proper suit (no bikinis or board shorts)
