Island Swimming will be running a special high performance training camp in collaboration with
the Cascade Swim Club in Calgary for swimmers qualified for the Canadian Open and the
Canadian Trials. The goal of this camp is to give our athletes a high-quality racing and training
experience in a professional environment.
Camp dates are approximately February 12 to 21, depending on flight options. During the
week, swimmers will stay and train with Cascade, one of the top programs in Canada, led by
Dave Johnson. Dave coached in the ISL (International Swim League) with the LA Current and
has worked with several Olympians, including members of Team Canada at the 2024 Paris
Games.
What was ISL? The International Swimming League (ISL) was a professional short-course
(25m) team league created in 2019 that featured the world’s best swimmers competing for
clubs like Energy Standard, Cali Condors, and London Roar. Meets were fast-paced two-day
team events with a points system and exciting knockout “skins” races, often scheduled
back-to-back within the same week while teams stayed in one city to reduce travel. It gathered
Olympic and world champions such as Dressel, Sjöström, and Peaty before ending in 2022
due to financial difficulties.https://www.youtube.com/@InternationalSwimmingLeague
Swimmers will train daily and take part in three different two-day meets. The idea is to learn
how to handle back-to-back competition while staying consistent and composed — the same
challenge our top swimmers face at national and international levels.
Main goals of the camp:
Train and compete in a high-performance environment with swimmers of similar calibre.
Learn how to manage multiple competitions and recover effectively between sessions.
Train and race at altitude (around 1,000m) to improve endurance and adaptability.
Provide coaching development through collaboration with Dave Johnson.
Financial support:
We are fortunate to have received funding from 94Forward to cover the accommodation costs
for the week. Each swimmer will also be able to apply for a grant to help with other training
camp expenses given by the Island Swimming Association High Performance Fund. Remaining
costs include meet entries, meals, transportation, coaching fees, and flights (approx. $1200.00
for 9 days not including the ISAHP grant).
The Island Swimming coach for this camp will be Lucien Zucchi, and the team chaperone will
be Alia Zawacki.

1. 2. 3. 4. This is a great opportunity for our swimmers to challenge themselves, learn from one of the
best programs in the country, and take another step forward in their development.
Swimmers qualified for Canadian Trials or Canadian Open (LINK) must confirm their
participation in this training camp on the ISC website before November 10, 2025.
