This season, Island Swimming will organize two training camps designed to help our athletes learn, grow, and experience something different from their regular training environment. Both camps will take place during Spring Break, with exact dates to be confirmed based on flight availability.

Participation will be by invitation only and limited to swimmers who are currently training seven to eight times per week. This ensures that the experience aligns with the commitment level and training needs of our most dedicated athletes.

Because we want to give to the maximum of swimmers the opportunities and the size of the program, the group will be split into two camps:

  • National and CSI Development groups will attend the Phoenix Camp (Arizona).

Phoenix Camp (Arizona)

  • Duration: 7–8 days
  • Groups: National & CSI Development
  • Approx. cost $2300
  • Purpose: Focused training in a warmer climate to build aerobic capacity, refine technique, and enhance team cohesion mid-season.
  • Notes: Shorter trip and minimal time zone difference (Mountain Time). Excellent for controlled training loads and focused intensity blocks before spring competition.

    Common Goals for Both Camps

The goals are the same for both camps:

  • Learn to train in different conditions – outdoors, in new pools, and in unfamiliar environments.
  • Develop independence and life skills – swimmers will be responsible for daily tasks such as preparing meals, cleaning their rooms, and maintaining shared spaces. A rotation system will be in place to encourage accountability and teamwork.
  • Discover and experience the city – through visits, physical activities, or cultural events such as NBA or hockey games. These activities will be included in the camp budget as part of the broader educational experience.
  • Ultimately, both camps aim to prepare athletes not just for competition, but for life — building the autonomy, discipline, and adaptability that will help them transition successfully to university and beyond.

    Chaperones

To make these camps possible and to ensure the safety and well-being of all athletes, the support of parent chaperones is essential. The required ratio is one chaperone for every twelve swimmers. If we are unable to secure enough chaperones, the camps will not be able to proceed.

Parent chaperones will be responsible for:

  • Helping prepare and organize meals for the swimmers.
  • Assisting with transportation to training sessions and activities.
  • Supporting the coaching staff in daily logistics and group management.
  • Chaperones will be invited to participate in all activities, and their costs will be fully included in the team’s overall budget. Parents who volunteer as chaperones will receive a 20% reduction in their participation cost. All chaperones will be required to complete a criminal record check before departure.

    Coaching Staff

Phoenix Camp: Brad Crocker and Wouter Terpstra and chaperones.

    Budget

The camp cost will include transportation, accommodation, meals, training fees, and selected group activities such as sports events, visits, or team outings. Exact details and cost estimates will be provided once travel arrangements are confirmed.

These camps are an opportunity to train in a new environment, strengthen team bonds, and gain experiences that go beyond the pool as part of long-term athlete development.

Swimmers must confirm their participation on the ISC website before November 20
